For some moisturising is something of an optional extra, something you dash too when you feel your skin getting tight or overly hot. But there's more to it than treating it as a "dry skin remedy".
Your skin needs moisturising, regardless of your age, gender or physical activity. It is the key to healthy, young looking skin. As a result of environment etc., you have to take good care of your skin. In addition to cleaning the face with an appropriate wash for your skin type, you also want to follow this step up with a good moisturiser. If you have dry skin, find a moisturiser suited to dry skin, if you have oily skin, do the same thing. Your main objective is to use the moisturiser to counteract any irritation caused by shaving, weather, air conditioning, car heaters or by makeup.
One of the most important benefits of moisturising is to seal moisture into skin that has been cleaned. It also keeps skin from becoming irritated, inflamed and infected. A daily commute whether driving or walking in bright sunlight can take its toll on bare skin. Exposure to the elements, both hot and cold, is one of the leading causes of wrinkles.
Treat your skin as if it were a fine pair of leather boots (go with me on this one!). If you let your fine boots get dirty, stay wet for long periods, lay in the sun, exposed to the elements and then didn't clean and nourish the leather. The leather (a type of skin) will dry out, crack and age prematurely. Yet with care they could remain looking new. So start moisturising your skin and start reaping the benefits now, because if you don't want to look 50 when you're 40 you need to start now.
